Pumpkin Investigations

We used all five of our senses to investigate our pumpkins:
We described how they looked
We measured them
We tested to see if they floated or sank
We thumped them and heard that they were hollow
We felt the gooey inside
We smelled the inside (yucky)
We  guessed how many seeds were inside
But....did we taste it?

We did...sort of.

We tasted roasted pumpkin seeds and a pumpkin dip.
Many of the kids wanted the dip recipe.  They even tried to copy it.  Here it is:

Mix together
1 large tub of Cool Whip
1 regular can of pumpkin
1 large box of instant vanilla pudding powder
1/2 Tblsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 Tblsp cinnamon

We dipped Nilla Wafers in it, but it is even better with apples.

Try it!

After all of the pumpkin prodding, we left the seeds inside and added soil and water to it.  We put them outside our classroom window.
Since we have been learning about life cycles, we realize that the pumpkin will rot and decompose into the dirt.  We are hoping that the seeds in the pumpkin will grow in the spring.  We will be checking in early May.
I hope it works!  That would be awesome!
